Improving lives through animal therapy

Guinea Pig

ZooLab is all about making people's lives better – even in the most difficult circumstances. That's why we work in care homes where being able to touch and hold an animal may very well be the brightest thing in someone's life.

We work in settings as diverse as care homes for the elderly, children's hospices and in pupil referral units. What unites all of these very different places and people is the power of animal therapy. Take a look at our testimonials and animal galleries to see the effect that animals can have on people.  Animal-assisted therapy is recognised as an occupational therapy within psychology: animals bring people together, helping people to see things with a different perspective and to cope in the most adverse situations.

At ZooLab, our staff are 'Dementia Friend' trained to help make sure our animal therapy sessions are pitched correctly and truly inclusive. The ‘Dementia Friends’ training has given ZooLab staff a better understanding of what it is like to live with dementia and taught them small things that they can do to help people living with the condition.Dementia Action Week takes place between the 20th and the 26th of May. The goal of Dementia Action Week is to encourage people to take action to improve the lives of those affected by dementia, working to create a dementia-friendly UK where those with dementia do not feel excluded.

Our sessions can take place anywhere residents are comfortable - Rangers will move around, presenting from all points of the room. If an additional ‘walkabout’ session is booked, we travel round your setting visiting those who can’t usually participate in regular sessions.

Our presenters will always consult the staff member present to ensure we are presenting in a fashion that suits your needs. Let us know – we are experts at adapting sessions just for you.
