Anna's Inside Scoop with Chris Knowles

One of the best things about ZooLab has got to be working with an incredible team! Each month, Ranger Anna will interview a member of the ZooLab family.

This month we will be speaking to ZooLab Ranger, Chris.

Hi Chris, how long have you worked for ZooLab?

I've been working for ZooLab for just under 9 years.

What is your role in the company?

ZooLab's Cambridgeshire Ranger.

With ZooLab, everyday is different! Can you think of a day which was completely out of the ordinary for you?

I was working on the Isle of Sheppy and in the evening there was a TV show about scorpions living on the coastal wall where I was staying, so I went out at midnight and sure enough there were lots of scorpions everywhere!

What is something you love about working for ZooLab?

I love that I get to meet lots of people but also that I can educate them about the natural world. I love hearing people's questions too.

Tell us a little bit about yourself! Have you ever had a nickname? If so, what was it?

I've had many nicknames: Natureboy, Nature Chris but most recently it's now Snake Bite.

Hear the story about how Chris got his snake bite:

What's your favourite book to read?

Field guides are my favourite thing to read, as it increases my knowledge.

Who would you want to be stranded on a desert island with?

If I had to be stranded on a desert island with a single person it would probably be Attenborough or Steve Irwin.

Tell us some of your hobbies!

I love to find things, so my hobbies often revolve around this - fossil hunting, metal detecting and finding wildlife to photograph. I've found loads of cool fossils, ancient stone hand axes as well as a Victoria 1st half sovereign and a Henry 8th groat. I also breed many rare reptiles!

What is your spirit animal?

My spirit animal would be either the octopus or pit viper.

And finally, what would you sing at karaoke night?

I wouldn't ever consider singing.
