One of the best things about ZooLab has got to be working with an incredible team! Each month, Ranger Anna will interview a member of the ZooLab family.
This month we will be speaking to ZooLab Ranger, Jess.
Hi Jess, how long have you worked for ZooLab?
I have worked for ZooLab since March 2019.
What is your role in the company?
My role in ZooLab is Educational Presenter for the South West. I work in Berkshire and the
surrounding areas, often travelling into central London.
With ZooLab, everyday is different! Can you think of a day which was completely out of the ordinary for you?
Every day is indeed different at ZooLab! I have enjoyed being involved in a number of
different activities over the last year and a half.
My highlight would have to be Halloween
2019, I presented at the late-night event at the Science Museum in London. I had enjoyed visiting the museum on several occasions when I was at school and never imagined that I would be presenting in such an impressive setting. t was a privilege and an amazing opportunity.
What is something you love about working for ZooLab?
I love the independence and variety of my job at ZooLab. Each day starts and ends with
looking after our animal’s health and welfare in our own homes but our educational
presentations take us to different venues with different people who have different needs and
expectations.
Tell us a little bit about yourself! What is your ultimate comfort meal?
My ultimate comfort meal has to be pizza. I enjoy ordering a takeaway pizza and cosying up
on the sofa in front of the TV with my boyfriend and my puppy.
If you could pick one character from a book to be best friends with, who would it be and
why?
I am a huge Harry Potter fan so I would have to choose Sirius Black as my best friend.
Exploring the Hogwarts castle at night or the forbidden forest with Sirius and the other
marauders would be an amazing experience.
If you had a super power, what would it be?
If I could have any super power, I would choose to have the ability to pause time. Time is
always running away with me so I would like to pause time while I do everyday chores
allowing me to have time to do the things I enjoy.
Tell us some of your hobbies!
I have a number of hobbies but my most enjoyable and time-consuming hobby is looking
after all my animals and ensuring they have the best welfare possible. When not pottering
around in my animal room I enjoy taking my dog for a walk, watching TV, spending time with
my family and reading books.
Do you have any pets?
Working for ZooLab we are very lucky to keep our animals at home. The animals I take on
the road for ZooLab I consider to be my pets. In total I have 27 different species of animals,
these include a Yemen chameleon, corn snakes, leopard geckos, guinea pigs, rats and my
newest addition to my family is a golden retriever puppy.
And finally, what do you want for Christmas?
For Christmas I would love to get an outdoor shed with central heating and running water to
house all my rodents (I have 17 rodents in total). This will allow me to get more mammals
such as chinchillas and degus. However, this is a big request so considering the year we
have all had I wish for a healthy world and families to enjoy a happy Christmas together.
