One of the best things about ZooLab has got to be working with an incredible team! Each month, Ranger Anna will interview a member of the ZooLab family.
This month we will be speaking to ZooLab presenter, Lydia.
Hi Lydia, how long have you worked for ZooLab?
I have worked for ZooLab for 3 years.
What is your role within the company?
I am a ZooLab ranger, out on the road with my animal colleagues. I also help with animal husbandry, which means making sure all the animals in the company are looked after and happy.
With ZooLab, everyday is different! Can you think of a day which was completely out of the ordinary for you?
There have been lots of unusual days! Most recently my python Draco was on TV - CBBC's Saturday Mash Up - which was a great experience and very different. I have enjoyed visiting museums for Lates and also attended a Harry Potter themed event at a library, which was so much fun.
What is something you love about working for ZooLab?
I love educating kids and adults about these amazing animals! I hope that learning about them will help children appreciate the world and hopefully help protect it for the future.
Tell us a little bit about yourself! When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to work with animals - at first I wanted to be a vet and then to work in a zoo, which I have done. ZooLab means I can have the animals at home like my own little zoo and teach people about them too!
What's your ultimate favourite food?
Ooooh! That's a hard one. I have a sweet tooth definitely, but I do love cheese too. So maybe a camembert, followed by a cake.
Where is the coolest place you've ever been?
South Africa, definitely! I went with 3 of my fellow rangers and it was an amazing experience. Seeing all the rhinos, giraffes and other animals in the wild was fantastic!
Tell us some of your hobbies!
I spend a lot of free time with my animals, especially my rats. They have their own play pen to explore. I also like to cross stitch while watching TV - I started my first cross stitch 5 years ago and I am still finishing it!
If you were an animal, what would it be?
Hmm, I think I would like to be a giraffe - being able to see everything from that high up would be pretty cool. They are one of my favourite animals.
And finally, what is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is finding my dream job and winning the trip to South Africa.
